Any procrastinator will tell you that making plans far, far in advance is awesome because that gives you more time to not think and or do anything about them until the very last minute. That being said, I've decided on my 2012 New Year's Resolution.
Starting the first week of January, I will be donating blood, all scheduled like, as much as possible. In between donations, I am going to try to give plasma and platelets. If it's possible, I'll toss in a session of double reds.
Donating blood has been very important to me for a very long time. At my Grandpa Bucsi's funeral, the Priest giving his eulogy talked about his generosity and one of the points he brought up was "The Gallon Club". Over his lifetime, he had given gallons and gallons of blood. That was pretty much it for me. As soon as I was of legal age, I started donating at my church (St. Mary's in Alpha, NJ). Talking to my Mother last week, we decided that I've roughly donated five gallons in my life. I don't exactly know, because I've donated to a bunch of different places over the years. But NEXT year, I'll be keeping very close track. Now, obviously, I'll be consulting with someone at the blood center to make sure I do this as safely as possible. Certainly, what's more important to me is quantity in 2012, but I also don't want to destroy my beautiful veins.
I may or may not start another blog titled "My Year In Blood", but we'll see. Since I have the blogspot app on my phone now, I may or may not attempt to update while giving blood. Generally, I'm not in there very long for a regular pint, five or ten minutes tops. There will be other times where I'll be in for a two hour jobber and, if both my arms aren't hooked up, I'll most likely get amazingly bored. In any case, you'll be updated, dear reader, on my adventures in blood-giving in the coming months.
Wanna take the challenge with me? If anyone does, and I understand if you're hesitant, let me know and I'll actually start the blog and give you rights to post and such.
